About me

I am passionate about youth and community development, moral regeneration and encouraging self-aided agency among young people.

The quotation “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom” By Jim Rohn, is reflective of my approach to life.

I am a firm believer that entrepreneurship is the single catalytic agent to transform society and people’s lives; hence from time to time I undertake social entrepreneurship initiatives and mentor aspiring entrepreneurs via the Wits Student’s Business Society of which I was former chairperson and during school holidays I mentor teenage girls (but mostly boys) at Digital Girl Africa coding boot camp (which is supposed to be a girls-only club) which hosts a hackathon which is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software and hardware projects.

What I am doing.

I am a technological savvy educator, already working on inclusive solutions to answer some of these big questions.

In my capacity as a special education teacher, I have helped learners and fellow staff members to cultivate a culture of using technological resources at their disposal and online learning tools.

I have also assisted the school management team to obtain sponsorship's and procure high specification hardware and latest educational software to be used by a multidisciplinary team to teach in a special education context and manage the behaviors of learners living with autism.

What I want to do.

I am committed to lifelong learning and passionate about education reform with a strong focus on the role of technology to foster inclusive and universal access to education.

What I see moving forward is that, if you are going to be able to create the future, you need to have knowledge and understanding of business dynamics, and ability to think strategically and the skills and knowledge of a designer to realize a vision.

The Digital Industrial revolution from an African perspective has lots of potential in terms of unlocking new opportunities and opening up African markets to the rest of the world and facilitating intra-continental trade and localization of products and services.

For South Africa, the Digital Industrial Revolution poses substantial challenges and offers perhaps rather fewer immediately clear-cut opportunities for the domestic economy.

The Digital Industrial Revolution requires a highly educated workforce. In the last 2 decades the quality of education steadily, and in some cases drastically, decreased. Why would the next 20 years be different? The big question is, where will you get the teachers who would turn around this decline?

Why

In an already uncertain global economy the Digital Industrial Revolution is expected to have disruptive impacts on all economies, but especially on lower- to middle-income countries that find it difficult to keep abreast of the rapid speed of technological advancement and innovation.

The digital divide will get wider as advancement in technologies grows exponentially. The digitally illiterate and people living with disabilities will be left behind.

As a social entrepreneur and activist for people living with disabilities, I have focused my energies to bridge the digital gap for the above-mentioned groups of people. Thus making sure that nobody is left behind.

Work experience

Strength of South Africa's position in the context of the Digital Industrial Revolution is its access to market opportunities across the African continent and progressive policies that promote the inclusion of women, children and people living with disabilities.

Potential advantages include a broad youth base, a fast-growing growing continental middle class, access to global value chains as technology suppliers and the chance for SMEs to capitalise on new technologies.

It is therefore imperative to rethink the whole framework of public sector collaboration with the private sector. The traditional paradigm of low cost, export-oriented industrial policy is already under intense scrutiny; but, going forward, it will be critical to sort myths and projections from emerging tangible realities and, on this basis, to develop sector-specific strategies that take account of the full range of threats and opportunities presented by the Digital Industrial Revolution.

Bridging the digital divide is important to achieving a more inclusive digital economy.

In my capacity as an ICT educator, I have experimented with Alternative Augmented Communication technologies to assist non-verbal and pre-verbal learners to adapt in the classroom.

Career Pathway.

Getting the job done.

It is said that thought without action is empty and action without thought is blind.

In the next 3 years, I see myself in an entrepreneurial endeavor playing a more operational and management role in an innovative and ICT driven company. This exercise I hope will build the skills sets required to get and execute a job or project in the education or public sector working on some challenging issues facing the country.

My future career goal is to be Chief Information Officer of a leading corporate, Parastatal or government department.

To achieve this goal I need to gain the necessary experience and study towards a Masters in my field of specialization.

This goal is within reach since I possess the discipline and tenacity to see it to fruition.
